I arrived in Italy on 8th February 2016, so on the 8th May, I reached my 3 month midpoint of my planned 6 month stay, so it was a good time to reflect.
Things I have so far achieved are included in the following categories:
– Social Life
Places I have visited:
– Modena (& San Damaso)
– Castelvetro di Modena
Well, to put it simply… I now have a regular social life which I have been struggling to have since finishing my degree actually! I have enjoyed visiting places and attending events with friends that I otherwise may not have done alone. I was also introduced to a lovely man and began a relationship at the end of April so that has been a significant change too.
I have tried many new foods and meals and have learned to prepare and cook new dishes that I can make myself now and love, so will continue to make when I leave here too! My appreciation of cooking and thoughts about how to use certain ingredients has changed after learning how to make the most of their flavours in the method of preparation and combination if ingredients.
I have not only been studying and learning Italian, but also learning more about English grammar, the rules and terminology. I have helped Valentina with her lesson planning and proof reading class activity worksheets etc. and attended a few classes at the school Valentina works at to meet her students and help them in the lesson.
Moving to work abroad has been a fantastic opportunity and adventure which I believe most people would benefit from doing at some point in their lives! It has been the best decision I have made (other than completing my university studies) and has given me new ambitions and priorities. It has presented me with new experiences and created many wonderful memories already as well as forming relationships with new friends and particularly the family I am living with and have become a big part of.
